Recruiter of the month for March 2014: SSG Danny Lee Cooper, Jr. SSG Cooper has done an outstanding job for the month of March, as he had the most enlistments for the Recruiting and Retention Battalion. Congratulations on this achievement! SSG Cooper was born in Cecil County, Maryland on April 25, 1976. He graduated high school in 1994 and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps (USMC) at the age of 18. After the completion of Boot Camp and Infantry School, he completed Airborne School and Parachute Rigger School in 1995. He was later accepted into the USMC Force Reconnaissance. Over his military career, he has had the opportunity to prove himself physically and mentally strong through several schools. While serving in the USMC, he served his country through various overseas missions and deployments to countries including Italy, France, Spain, Greece, Iraq, Afghanistan, Africa, and others. After his second deployment, he was honorably discharged and he returned to his civilian life. Nearly 10 years later, on an outdoor expedition, SSG Cooper ran his Maryland Army National Guard Recruiter. They started conversing and SSG Cooper’s interest in the military quickly sparked. Within a month, he had enlisted in the Maryland Army National Guard as a 15U, Medium Helicopter Repairer, and was off to Advanced Individual Training (AIT). With his newly attained skills from the National Guard, he was able to acquire a civilian Airframe and Power Plant License. In April 2013, he applied for a Recruiter position in the Maryland Army National Guard and has been able to start his career off with great success. He is starting his one-year anniversary off with strength and recognition. SSG Cooper’s dedication, loyalty, honor, and selfless service will help set the standard for new Soldiers. Aside from work, SSG Cooper is fully committed to his family. He and his wife have three daughters and another little one on the way, due in September. SSG Cooper’s family time includes career days at his daughter’s school. He actively coaches his two oldest daughters’ softball team and has since they started playing. The Cooper family loves to stay physically active by running 5k’s, hiking, and anything that includes outdoor activities. SSG Cooper is extremely proud of his daughter’s and their educational accomplishments.
