Now it all goes into one container and taken to a facility where machines and workers separate the materials for sale. In a state where a law wants communities recycling 75 percent of their waste by 2020, single-stream processing is the perfect system. Except for one thing: For Citrus County’s lone recycling company, it’s a money loser. FDS Disposal Inc., the county’s largest garbage hauler, subsidizes its company, Single Stream Processing, or SSP, because there isn’t enough money on the market to maintain on its own.
