Martin Luther King Holiday The Recycling and Trash Collection office, Transfer Station and Marion Orton Recycling Center will be closed to the public on Monday, January 20th in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. All recycling and trash collection routes will run on schedule for the 20th. Christmas Tree Recycling Residents can set their Christmas trees curbside on their regular service day for collection with the yardwaste program. Trees will be collected curbside during the month of January 2015. Residents can also bring their trees to the Compost site for free during normal operating hours (see hours below). All trees must be free from all plastic bags, stands, decorations, lights, and tinsel before they will be collected. No artificial trees will be collected curbside. Compost Facility Hours. The City’s Compost Facility at 1708 S. Armstrong Avenue is open during normal operating hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The site will be open on Saturday, January 3rd from 8:00 a.m. to noon. The site is now open the first Saturday of each month through March. Residents of Fayetteville are allowed to drop off brush, leaves or grass during these hours but need to bring a recent water bill showing recycling and trash collection charges and proof of residency to drop off yard waste for free. Commercial landscapers and contractors are allowed to use the site for drop off purposes and normal fees apply. Compost Distribution. Screened compost is available at this time until supplies last. Only Fayetteville residents are allowed to purchase the compost and must show proof of residency through their water bill. No commercial customers or apartments are allowed to receive compost. Please bring a copy of a recent water bill showing recycling and trash collection charges for proof of residency. Residents will only be allowed to purchase one scoop for $20 plus tax when the compost is available. One scoop is approximately 2 ½ cubic yards or enough to fill the bed of a regular size pick-up truck. Limiting to one scoop allows a chance for most residents to purchase the compost should they desire. Bagged Compost is also available for $4.00 per bag. Bag purchases of 10 or more bags must be placed in advance. Please call 575-8398 to schedule an advance order. Free Mulch Give –A- Way. Due to an excess supply of mulch, the City is offering free mulch during the month of January during normal operating hours at the City’s Compost Facility located at 1708 S. Armstrong Ave. in southeast Fayetteville. The free mulch is available to anybody including those outside of Fayetteville. The mulch will be given away for free until supplies are exhausted and may be acquired in truck-bed/trailer amounts or customers can bring their own containers or bags for loading. The facility hours are 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and the site will also be open on Saturday, January 3rd from 8:00 a.m. until noon. The mulch is made from ground-up trees and is great for moisture retention around plants. The mulch is made from trees collected through the City’s Yard waste Program and trees dropped off at the Composting site. Mulch Distribution. Mulch will be made available during normal operating hours (see above) while supplies last. The normal fee for mulch is $10 per scoop (2 1/2 cubic yards) and is available to anyone. The mulch will be free during the month of January. Transfer Station Hours. The City’s Transfer Station for the disposal of trash is open Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., excluding holidays. The fees for disposal are $45.20 per ton, $28.90 minimum, or $6.20 per bag plus tax. The Transfer Station will be closed to the public on Thursday, January 1st for the New Year holiday and January 20th, for the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.
