Red Sox win TOC title June 11, 2013 9:33 PM THE RECORDER After two heart-stopping wins just to reach the championship game in the Minors division of the Tournament of Champions, the Red Sox made sure there wouldn’t be that kind of drama on their way to the title. The Red Sox, which won the Porterville Little League Minors title, added the TOC championship on Tuesday with a 10-5 win over the Exeter Muckdogs at Porterville Little League Complex. Tuesday’s win came after the Red Sox had to sweat out two one-run victories just to reach the finals. But on Tuesday, winning pitcher Alexis Bedolla and Alonzo Menchaca combined to strike out 11 for the Red Sox. Bedolla struck out five over the first three innings and Menchaca allowed one earned run while striking out six over three innings to pick up the save. The Red Sox broke the game open by scoring five runs in the fifth inning to take a 10-3 lead. Bedolla and Christian Sanchez each singled and on a wild play, Dominic Allen came all the way around to score after hitting a ground ball, so three runs scored to give the Red Sox an 8-3 lead. Alonso Bedolla and Jonathan Nelms also each singled and scored to finish the rally. The Red Sox took a 2-0 lead in the first as Sanchez and Menchaca each singled and Alonso Bedolla doubled during the rally. Nelms singled and scored in the second to give the Red Sox a 3-2 lead. Alonso Bedolla hit an RBi single during a two-run rally in the third to put the Red Sox up 5-2. Alonso Bedolla had three hits, Nelms and Sanchez each had two hits and Christian Chavez and Jace Gatellum each added a hit for the Red Sox. Later on Tuesday night, the Porterville Athletics played the Exeter Rangers for the TOC Majors title. Details on that game will be featured in Thursday’s edition of the Recorder, on the Recorder web site and on the Porterville Recorder Facebook page.
