Red State: Found this on Netflix, and Kevin Smith, (One of my fav filmmakers) directed this. I caught up on 3 flicks, I havent seen from him, and this happened to be in this mix. To be honest, its ok. Not the best. I wouldnt really say its a horror film, but kind of a dark thriller, slash drama. What works as a thoughtful concept, is automatically ruined by pacing. Acting is great, along with the characters, but its just eh...A few things that kind of eh me is, its extremely short. Plus there is a long line of dialogue in a scene, with the great John Goodman. Its an action scene, and youre wondering, why is it long and why didnt they just explain it in two sentences? Like I said, nothing you will likely remember, but I do like how it plays with the opinions on religous beliefs, and people who follow, rather than lead. If this was his first attempt at horror, I hope it gets better with his new film Tusk. 3 outta 5.
