Redbridge Council published its latest preferred options report - TopicsExpress

Redbridge Council published its latest preferred options report for the future of our borough on 7th November. The public consultation finishes on 22nd December. We urge you to complete the survey: Consultation on the Future of Redbridge surveys.redbridge.gov.uk/surveys/jimmy/help-shape-the-future-of-redbridge/ The Council strategy is to continue the failed policy of building houses, except now it is also going to destroy Green Belt land such as Oakfields, recognised as one of the best outdoor community sport facilities in the region. The Council states that population growth (40,000 between 2001 and 2011) means doing nothing is not an option but they only offer one option - keep on building. Is this right? The Councils own figures show the population of Redbridge born in the UK went down by almost 5,000 between 2001 and 2011 (in spite of the high birth rate in Redbridge). The growth is due to nearly 45,000 born outside the UK and is not sustainable. Services, roads and the environment cannot cope. Nationally, Redbridge is in the top 20% of recipients of government money for houses built over the last 6 years. Has it helped those families trying buy their own home? We therefore believe that the Council needs to rethink the whole strategy. It is not about where to build housing, it is actually about why! A democracy should consider all the options, not just the Councils own preferred options. Together we will Save Oakfield Site
