Reds need an Origi of the attacking species in January I was intrigued to read the comments from Divock Origi that he would be happy to move to Liverpool in the New Year. I’m not surprised. His current club Lille aren’t doing very well at the moment. And his comments clearly tell us he believes he would have a chance of getting into the Liverpool first team this season. If I was Liverpool, I would investigate whether it was possible to take the teenager on in January. Certainly, if Lille drop out of the Europa League in the group stage then there is every chance the player will want to move on. Maybe it will be a case of Liverpool offering a few more quid to the French side, who I’m sure won’t mind so much. The Reds need more options in attack. Origi may not have caused much of a stir in his two games against Everton recently, but Lille are a team out of form. The striker demonstrated his true potential during the World Cup where you couldn’t fail to have been impressed by him. He has a lot going for him. He is quick and a handful. And he is better than Mario Balotelli is at present. Bringing him over in January would give him time to acclimatise both to the squad and playing in the Premier League. Sure, he is raw. But it is better to be raw with great pace than be raw and merely be a great technician. As the absence of Daniel Sturridge has proven, Liverpool aren’t blessed with a lot of pace up front. Pushing the boat out to have Origi on their books in January makes sense. echo/lawro
