Referendum when Russian army has maintained its overwhelming presence is a joke. It can never be free and fair and do what referendums are meant to do. If it were, there would be no need for the presence of the army, almost pushing for invasion like a glooming threat, gun on your head. As big a joke is Indians understanding this but not understanding the same in kashmir where elections are presumed to be free and fair when the army maintains and conducts elections. The representatives (rulers) then are the ones New Delhi chooses for Kashmiris to be ruled by. Not who Kashmiris elect A much bigger joke is when these elections are propagated as being equivalent to a plebiscite where kashmir shows its faith in indian democracy by participating in these elections. So hard to understand when you are in a position of absolute power. Isnt it?
