Área Científica: Biological Sciences Requisitos de admissão Candidates should hold an MSc degree in Bioinformatics (or Biological Sciences with an emphasis on bioinformatics) and experience with next-generation sequencing (NGS) data analyses and de novo transcriptome assembly. Fluency in at least one computer programming language is required. The candidate will work within an international team, hence fluency in English will be highly valued. Although the candidate will have the support of a bioinformatics team, some degree of autonomy is expected. Plano de trabalhos: A Research Fellowship (BI) is available at CIBIO (Centro de Investigação em Biodiversidade e Recursos Genéticos) , University of Porto. The workplan is embedded in a project in the areas of evolutionary biology and molecular evolution, investigating the signatures of co-evolution between mitochondrial and nuclear-encoded genes involved in the oxidative-phosphorylation (OXPHOS) pathway, using Podarcis wall lizards as a model. The candidate will be involved in several tasks: i) assembly of the recently generated Podarcistranscriptome; ii) identification and annotation of the OXPHOS genes based on the Anolis carolinensis genome; iii) design of a targeted capture experiment for Illumina sequencing of both the target and random genes; iv) analyses of the OXPHOS genes sequence data. The work will be conducted at CIBIO (Campus Agrário de Vairão) under the supervision of Catarina Pinho and is supported by a research project funded by FCT – Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (EXPL/BIA-EVF/1283/2012). Legislação e regulamentação aplicável: Lei Nº. 40/2004, de 18 de Agosto (Estatuto do Bolseiro de Investigação Científica); Regulamento da Formação Avançada e Qualificação de Recursos Humanos 2010 e de acordo com o Regulamento de Bolsas do ICETA aprovado pela FCT. Local de trabalho: The work will be conducted at CIBIO (Campus Agrário de Vairão). Duração da bolsa: The grant has duration of 12 months, starting in November 11 2013. Valor do subsídio de manutenção mensal: The monthly payment will be of 980€ plus social security (seguro social voluntário), paid by bank transfer. Métodos de selecção: Candidates will be ranked by a global evaluation based on the academic career (25%), experience in bioinformatics, with an emphasis in the areas of expertise necessary for the project tasks (65%) and an evaluation of the motivation letter (10%). If necessary, an interview (in person or by skype) with a subset of candidates will be scheduled. The jury may not award the scholarship if the quality of the candidates is less than desired.
