Reflecting back on First Friday Bakersfield and Latination 6.... What a fabulous evening! Our biggest crowds ever, not only in the gallery but also on the streets of the Arts District downtown.. The newly revived ArtWalk now run by the Arts Council of Kern and my pal David Gordon was great. Over 60 booths of ART and ARTISTS! Inside Metro, we sold several pieces of art from the exhibit, which on a night like that.... with a packed gallery can be a difficult thing to do! Special thanks to my staff for going above and beyond not only on opening night but throughout the weeks prior as we installed the show... KUDOS to team leader Rick Gomez and support staff Nickolas John Felix, Kevin Quiroz, andMichael Steven Hinojosa. Outstanding job guys! Special thanks to 60+ artists who entered the show. This was by far the best grouping of entries ever. It was also the first year that at least one piece from EVERY artist that submitted was displayed. Congratulations to the top 3 winners. Jorge Guillen, Dacey Dia Vander Wal-Villarreal, and Patti Peak Doolittle. As usual, Matt Munoz and Mento Buru were amazing and kept the place hopping all night and the food and bar by our friend Luis Aguilar and his El Pueblo restaurant from Lamont was top notch! The gallery looked amazing thanks to House of Flowers and Diana Klawitter and Amanda Klawitter... beautiful flowers everywhere... and of course Stef Sparrow and Walker-Lewis Rents provided us with the great cocktail tables... Liz Netherton and Freestyle Event Services made the gallery look even more beautiful with the uplights and lounge furniture. Community support is what makes events like First Friday and Latination successful! For the 6th year in a row, Bakersfield Life Magazine was our media sponsor. Thank you to Olivia Garcia and her staff for the continued support and coverage. For the 2nd year in a row Valley Republic Bank was overall sponsor of Latination. We appreciate that support by Bruce Jay and his team at VRB.... its one of the things that makes this place such a special place to live. We also want to thank David A. Torres, Criminal Defense Lawyer, Enigma LLC, David Leon, Adam G. Belter for being community sponsors. Media coverage is always great to have and Stefani Dias and The Bakersfield Californian gave us just that in Thursdays Eye Street section. Lisa Kimble and the folks at The Live Well Show on Bakersfield plus Josh Damien and Amity Addrisi were awesome as usual on KBFX FOX 58. Maddie Janssen Kget and Jeanne Pastore also were fabulous on KGET 17 Sunrise. Special thanks to Jackie Parks 23ABC and Todd Karli 23ABC of KERO 23 NEWS for being our hosts for the awards portion of the evening. And finally personal thanks to my friends for all the support of me, my gallery and the wild ideas I get! Eydie Gibson. Richard Beene, Judi Tuttle McCarthy, Lisa Kimble Edmonston, Jason Martin, Mitch Olson, Mimi NJoe Audelo, Suzanne Leon, Alyssa Wolfer, Erin Ivy, Steve Wilkinson, Lois Henry, Kim Jessup, Robin Noble, Karen Goh, David Allen Gordon, Laurie Anello Bustamante, Odilia Araujo de Camacho, Katy Trail-Glentzer, Thomas Johnson Christina Sweet, Jesus Fidel, Audrey Chavez, Bryan A. Hughes... Thank you all for all you do. Latination 7? I think so!
