Reflecting on Swami Radhanandas words as I sort and pack in - TopicsExpress

Reflecting on Swami Radhanandas words as I sort and pack in preparation to move: I sorted through an old trunk that had been stored under the house for over ten years. The items inside were very familiar. Each one held a string back to a former life, tying my mind to old memories of forgotten people and places. I decided to give everything away. I wouldnt be able to take those items with me at the end of my life, but where do the memories go? What do I want to remember? What from this life do I want to hold in my mind? In our work, our relationships, and our daily life, routines easily set in, and everything we do can become very solid, immoveable, and inflexible. We feel limited and dead. How can we bring life into our daily actions? Every moment is calling for change, giving us a chance to leap into the present. There is no need to carry a trunkload of stuff into each relationship or each action. Instead, focus the mind on the moment. Cut the ties of old hurts and memories and images and see the situation you are working with now. The challenge is to continue to make new memories, not be bound by old ones. Liberating myself from many of my belongings is an interesting process! Paring down years of holiday decorations from this pile to this box was very freeing for me. Feeling light as a feather.
