Reflecting on the victories this nation has seen regarding labor and its conditions of participation... There have been many victories we should acknowledge; eight hour work days, occupational safety and health standards, and reasonable pay are some to consider. While there are many victories yet to be won, there remains these three constants that predate the days of African slave labor, the exploitation of immigrants and the Industrial Revolution: 1) Above all, people want to work and provide for their families. 2) The reverence for workers dignity should never be trumped by by terms of capitalism. When it is, society suffers stings that are felt through generations. 3) Economies & communities function best when those two institutions are married and yield fair access, fair pay, and mutual investment reciprocation. #HappyLaborDay
