Reflection on my trip to Italy 2013 It was awesomely wonderful to be with my family. To share meals with them. To sit at the dinner table twice in a day…with 10-15 people every single day…I count this, among one of the best true blessing from God. The word “FAMILY” took its true meaning. While in Italy I had the opportunity to visit many Holy Places. The memorable and emotional ones, for me, were Lanciano e Le Tre Fontane. While walking these grounds where, for many centuries, it ran red with the blood of 10,203 martyred Christians, one among them being Paul of Tarsus. I was in such a awe that it was impossible to absorb it all. You realize you are walking in jaw-dropping, very Holy grounds but you are in such a awe that, at that moment, your brains simply cannot absorb it all. When you return home and take some time to meditate on the ground your feet have walked upon…that’s when it really hits you. The excitement wares off and a since of peace, wonder and appreciation comes forth and settles into your being. You reflect on how blessed we truly are, because of the sacrifices of many we now are able to worship the one true God without fear. Because of the shading of much of these Martyrs’ blood and the recorded history they left behind, we are saved, if we so chose. If Jesus, Who is without sin, had not paid for our own inequities and sins, and for those who gave witness to His life and sufferings also gave theirs in true fellowship, where would we Christians all be? Being there, placed all this into a perspective reality. A reality that is both conducive to reflect upon, and painful to withstand, at the same. I say, Conducive because it prompted me to reflect on the massive gifts their shed blood gives us, and painful because it made me realize how little my faith really is, and would my resolve to Love God and to follow Christ, be strong enough to make the same choices.
