Reflections from Ethiopia by Pastor Jared. Day 4. Today was a great day! Our team began the day with a relatively leisurely breakfast, and left the hotel to go worship with our brothers and sisters in the Jemo Church. Of course the majority of the service was in Amharic, so while it was difficult to understand everything being said I had the benefit of sitting next to Fikre, one of our translators, who kept me informed. You could definitely tell when they recited the apostles creed together. That was cool because here we were, worshipping with people we could barely understand, yet affirming that we believe the same things! Then I had the opportunity to preach just a little bit. I read from Revelation 7:9-14, and then I preached while Firke translated. I shared four basic points. We share one story. We have the same history, the same father and mother, the same purpose of subduing creation. We share one sinfulness. Regardless of our differences in culture and language and sometimes even the manifestation of our sin, sin begins within every human heart. We share one Redemption. Jesus is equally our Lord and only hope, and together in Him we are called to work to bring Gods Kingdom values to the earth and restore what is broken. We share one future. A future that is sinless, and worshipful and together. It was a great day, and a great reminder of the reality that despite our many differences we are one people with one God. Be Loved. Go Deeper.
