Regarding Deflategate: Any team that prepares the game balls in a room that is warmer than the field of play, should expect to see a change in PSI for roughly every 10 degrees difference in temperature. If the football PSI is measured by the official indoors prior to the start of the game, it is almost certain the PSI of that same ball will vary with the temperature of the playing field. The only way to know if the ball has been tampered with is to measure the football PSI under the same conditions as the pre game measurement. In other words, the PSI for any given football would appear to be different every time when measured to an indoor temp and compared this to the PSI measurement taken at a different outdoor temperature. If the PSI of the football is measured in a training room, the temperature there could be higher than normal, resulting in a greater difference in PSI when testing that same football in a cold climate. Contrast this to the colts indoor stadium, where temperature changes would be dramatically less going from the locker room to the field of play. In the case of Gillette Stadium for a football inflated to 12.5psi in a training room, it is reasonable to expect a drop of up to 2psi for a football that is used in a playing environment that is 30 degrees colder (or more), without anyone tampering with the ball. Consider this science when listening to the media and their broad accusations of cheating leveled at the Patriots. This says more about the media and their lack of credible reporting than it says about Belichick, Brady, and the rest of the Patriots organization. The media, along with a lot of other folks, have jumped to the conclusion that the Patriots or Tom Brady have cheated. It is not the only conclusion, just the one they know will get them more viewers/ readers. Here is an alternative view that no one mentioned at either of the press conferences held today: boston/sports/football/patriots/2015/01/21/how-the-patriots-could-have-cheated-without-letting-air-out-the-ball/Eocm5m29nIlh0HRBjFWsYO/story.html
