Regarding Lost and Found Pet Posts: Please be advised that we are very happy to post info/photos about lost and/or found pets in our community. We realize that the community page has been an excellent source for reuniting pet owners with their pets and if you have lost an animal or have a found animal in your possession; we are more than happy to help.... However... Recently, we have received many courtesy posts made on behalf of strangers. These posts are showing up via Kijiji, other FB pages/groups and other social media sites. Although we think its wonderful that there are people who care enough to share these posts, the info that is often times provided is typically lacking and it often makes it challenging for us to follow-up on whether these pets have already been re-united with their owners. Please if you know of someone who has found or is searching for an animal; encourage this person to share the info/photo with us directly so that we can share the most accurate info possible. If you insist on sharing a post on behalf of a stranger, please ensure that you have already followed up with the applicable contact to ensure that the contact info is current/accurate and that the animal/owner has not already been reunited. Another frequent trend we are seeing recently is reports that a dog/cat has been seen on (insert street name here). Please understand that in these instances we do keep an eye out for future posts that may describe such an animal but, unless you have actually caught the animal and have him/her in your possession or you have contacted animal bylaw to pick up said animal or delivered the animal to Morinville Veterinary Clinic or The Edmonton Humane Society etc.. we do not post sightings into the newsfeed. Many animals; especially cats, often leave and return to their home property on a regular basis. If you are certain that an animal is on the loose and you are unable to catch them; please contact municipal enforcement at 780-458-4300 as they have officers who are patrolling city streets for animals at large and who are trained to safely track and capture lost pets. The exception to the above is sightings of deceased pets. If you happen across a deceased pet, please contact St. Albert Public Works at 780-459-1557. We will also share a description of the pet on the community page. Although heartbreaking; we feel that sharing this info offers a family searching for a lost pet an opportunity for closure that they might not otherwise receive.
