Regarding Star Wars, what is canon? These characters have appeared in hundreds of stories over the span of two decades. Disney can say this doesnt count but they cant erase the memories engendered ever since West End Games published their first RPG supplements or Zahn wrote his trilogy. Heck, going back even further...Marvel did a long running comic series AS THE ORIGINAL TRILOGY WAS STILL BEING RELEASED. Later, Lucas decided those stories dont count, and what happened? Over the years, writers slowly introduced hundreds of elements of that series into Expanded Universe through novels, RPG books, and online articles. Slowly, that which was no longer considered valid was becoming a part of the shared universe. When Disney bought Marvel they eventually decided to streamline some of the universe to make it easier for new readers but they didnt chuck out the 50 plus years of history. That would be a waste. Now, theyre continuing to have fun with the past and pay homage to what has come before. Soon, Im sure theyll feel the same regarding the VAST library relate to Star Wars, particular with the new Rebels series overseen by Greg Weisman, a man long committed to having fun with the history of properties (for those of you familiar with his Spider-Man and Young Justice cartoon). It may look dark now, but I believe theres a light at the end of the tunnel and things are going to turn out all right. Just wait and see.
