Regarding historicity of the Bible, origins and other simple topics in academia: I have read too much lately that leans towards precise knowledge of many facets therein. Here is a short philosophical response: It is sometimes hard to have the precise words to describe or explain something when the parameters of what is being described are still being studied or discovered. I know quite a few people, and have heard of oodles more, who become quite uneasy when an academic (Armininian or otherwise) becomes too Positive about anything on any subject. This can lead to dogmatism, scholasticism, and yes, I will say it: indoctrination. I have always taught students to think for themselves outside the parameters of the subject material, and I am honest when I do not have the objectivity to be sure. What scares me is when children (12 and under) get told certain things are objective when they could be very subjective. Thats why I brought up indoctrination. If you have to be sure about something, be sure that you are alive, God is here, the truth is in Jesus (not in us ontologically), and as Ecclesiastes says, things will continue as they have been in the pattern of creation... of course until Christ returns. Im being somewhat facetious of course; I am objective about a lot, but those who claim there is such a thing as total objectivity, or complete human knowledge of anything -- including the Bible -- are not living in the same world as 99.9% of the world. So either 99.9% of the world is on its way to hell, or the other 0.1% should at least consider the possibility that being positively sure that everything can be known from the Bible alone is the wrong way to read it. The purpose of scripture is outlined by Timothy, and thats where I leave you. 2 Tim. 3:16 : All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.
