Regarding protests: Im stupid, so excuse the question. Are they angry because they honestly believe the cop would not have killed a white person given the same set of circumstances? In both of these cases the men were HUGE and refusing to cooperate. I am not saying good judgment was used (except that I think it is poor police training as the primary cause) evident in either case, but I think fear drove both reactions. Its heart-rending to hear Eric Garner say over and over that he cant breathe. As a many year watcher of reality cop shows, I have a feeling they tend not to believe this kind of claim because so many suspects say stuff like that. Its so obvious to those of us watching that he is quiet and sincere and they should have checked on him. More than once. I just want to scream thru the TV set. So very awful. In both cases, tho, I think it was bad judgment not a racial thing. Very very bad judgment. Doesnt mean either cop did something criminally wrong. Definitely large lawsuit looming and valid (for Eric, not sure about Michael). But I think it is very tough to be a police officer and we have to give them a certain amount of latitude in trying to deal with all of us. I thought the mayor of NY came out with the perfect approach. Compassionate and proactive. Enough with the idiotic rioting/violence.
