Regarding the now deleted thread debating that black is black, grey is grey, bay is bay....there are no special differences or need to further categorize or describe shades or etc because (for example) all Gg greys are genetically the same, even if phenotypes vary-- I liken it to LP-- LP is testable, but there are (for example) wildly different phenotypes in LPlp horses-- we have no tests for PATN genes yet, and they are not completely explained/understood, but we all seem to be able to agree that they exist, and we want to know more, and want to be able to categorize those phenotypic differences by PATN type, eventually. People have dedicated their lives to doing phenotype research on the differences in LP patterns, in hopes that it will lead to meaningful genetic research, and eventually more concrete genetic answers as to the whys of varying expressions related to LP. Why then, can we not assume that similar genes/modifiers exist which affect the shade of a bay, or which cause fleabites on a grey, or more or less dun factor on duns......and why do we not want to share observations and learn more and hopefully, eventually, have more concrete answers to the genetic causes of those phenotypic differences as well?
