Regarding the original Broad Brook Grammar School: From the book East Windsor Through the Years The land was purchased from J.F. Mann on December 6, 1873 for $1,250. The site selected did not meet with the approval of all the citizens of the village--some wanted the school at the north end--but the new school was built on the chosen site, nonetheless. Districts Nos. 8 and 9 then became District No. 8. The 2-1/2 story, 8-room brick schoolhouse was completed in the early part of 1874 at a cost of just over $20,000, and on May 13th of that year about 200 pupils, with four teachers in charge, moved in.
