Regarding this DeMoulas/Market Basket fiasco (aka Save Market Basket) I have three glaring opinions on the matter: (warning, FB essay inbound) 1.) I keep reading how people cant afford to shop at the MBs competitors, even for the short term during this... revolt... and it got me thinking about why ATD was ousted from a financial/business end. MBs prices need to be increased across the board - which is most likely one of the main contributing factors of this whole thing to begin with. 2.) While I admire those who stand up for what they believe in, Im not on board with creating financial hardship for families with an already stretched budget. This protest has snowballed into something much larger on a regional level and I fear for the long-term impact this will have. 3.) The absence of MB has left a gaping hole in our area and has made it quite obvious that (pun intended) all of our eggs have been placed in one basket. Stop & Shop is the obvious next choice, short of shopping at Walmart (no, thanks) but the +15-20% in grocery bill is a little steep. Whole Foods Market Andover is the most healthy option, but woah.... Businesses have a *RIGHT* to make money and operate within legal protocols as they wish. People have a right to work for whom they wish and protest or boycott at their discretion. Its a difficult position for everyone and I hope this gets cleared up quickly. Theres no true winners no matter the outcome!
