Regine Velasquez on her showbiz career: “Its not like before anymore.” by Bernie V. Franco, pep.ph Tanggap ng Asias Songbird na si Regine Velasquez na nakatuon na ang spotlight ngayon sa mas batang singers. Sabi niya, “Yeah, siguro naman. Ive been in the business for a long time and Im just happy being part of something like this, being able to see them grow. A lot of the singers that are coming out are now sikat. Binanggit ni Regine sina Kyla, Angeline Quinto, Jonalyn Viray, at Sarah Geronimo. “Im happy to say that I became part of their careers. Im happy that I was also once their inspiration. “I should be more happy, di ba? Thats good enough for me.” Saad pa ni Regine, ang prayoridad niya ngayon ay ang kanyang pamilya. “Im a mommy now, Im a wife, so medyo iba na rin ang priorities ko. Although Im still here, Im still working, Im still doing my best to entertain people. “But its not like before anymore. “Im no longer interested in competing with anyone kasi parang pinagdaanan ko na yan in my earlier years; joining amateur singing contests, been there, done that. “Also, finally, when I became a recording artist, I also went through that whole healthy competition with all other artists. “Siguro puwedeng hindi ko na isipin yon and just think of my husband and my son, and once in a while be happy with the projects Im given.” Nakausap ng PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) si Regine sa isang lunch interview sa Ciudad Fernandina Hotel, sa Vigan, Ilocos Sur, para sa Northern Luzon regional finals ng hinu-host niyang talent show sa GMA, ang Bet ng Bayan, kahapon, October 28, Martes, na tumaon sa Raniag Twilight Festival ng Vigan. SHE STILL HAS IT. Ano ang nagbibigay sa kanya ng dahilan upang magpatuloy pa sa kanyang career? Sagot ni Regine, “Kasi people seem to be interested in hearing me sing. Theyre still interested in buying my album. Theyre interested in seeing me on TV, and I thought, why not? “God gave me this talent. Hindi naman Niya kinuha. “I think I still am able to entertain people, so why not use it pa? “And I still have responsibilities also. Im helping my family, I also wanna help my husband. So, Im very grateful that Im still here, still doing the same thing. And GMA, of course, is so generous in giving me good projects, but not to the point of not having time with my family. And Im very thankful Im given good projects and yet I still have time to be a wife and a mom. Sa kasalukuyan, bukod sa Bet ng Bayan, host din si Regine ng weekend morning talk show na Sarap Diva. WEIGHT CONCERN. Sa isang interview, sinabi noon ni Regine na ang pagbabawas ng timbang ang itinuturing niyang isa sa biggest challenges matapos manganak at magbalik sa showbiz. “Its actually the people who put pressure on us, especially on women, kasi parang theyre not so keen [when it comes to weight of] guys. “There are guys na cute naman sa kanila even if they are chubby. But with girls, theyre somehow very unforgiving. “So, I used to be pressured. I still want to lose some weight but I dont wanna put pressure on myself too much. “I really try to lose weight, especially for the show. “I wanna look decent in my gowns. Mahirap kasi pag medyo pretty and plump ka, medyo mahirap magdamit!” natatawa pa niyang sabi. Patuloy ni Regine, “Im able naman to do it konti, at least I was able to lose some weight. “As much as possible, I dont wanna put pressure on myself. But you cant help it because sa multimedia, their expectations are so high and theyre the ones who keep on telling you, Ah, mataba ka pa. Mag-lose ka pa ng weight. So, parang for them, its easy for them to say it because hindi naman sila ang nasa katawan mo. And as you get older, its harder to lose weight, and especially sa babae mahirap, kasi we have hormones. I gave birth... although three years na yon. Although, you cant just bounce back. Marami kang dinadaanang proseso as a woman. “I mean, Im happy for women who are able to lose the weight right away, pero unfortunately, not everybody is given that gift.” DISCOVERING TALENTS. Sa pamamagitan ng nationwide talent search na Bet ng Bayan, nakakadiskubre ng mga bagong talento sa buong Pilipinas at ilan sa mga ito ay hindi pa naipapakita sa telebisyon. Sabi ni Regine tungkol dito, “We should all be proud because we are the ones going to the provinces and doing the show there, mas nakakahanap ka ng raw talent. “I think thats what they want talaga. Since marami nang singing contests, madami nang reality shows, they wanted to really find someone or group of people who are really talented and, kumbaga, di pa sila nadi-discover. “Yun ang nangyari. A lot of them are raw talents that never performed pa on TV.” Sa dinami-dami ng mga talented na Pilipino sa bansa, ano naman sa palagay ni Regine ang factor upang sumikat ang isang may talento. “Actually, I dont know the answer to that. “But they always say that they have to have the It, they have to have the X factor. And no one really knows what that is. But I personally think its charisma; the way they appeal to the people. May ganun. “Minsan nga, yung iba, di naman ganun kagaling, pero people seem to like them. May appeal sila sa tao, may mga ganun. “Meron din naman magagaling na walang X factor, so its a really hard combination. “You have to have both.
