Regional Police Training Center Mazar-e Sharif handed over to Afghans Mazar-e Sharif. On the 26th of June the Head of German Police Project Team (GPPT), Brigadier General Alfons Aigner, officially handed over the Regional Police Training Center to the Afghans. National and international guests, including the Deputy Interior Minister for Policy and Strategy Mr. Masood Azizi, EUPOL Acting Head of Mission Kevin Lambert participated at the handover ceremony. “This training center has been designed and built to offer the best environment and opportunity for the future careers of female and male officers”, said BG Alfons Aigner. The German police have provided support in terms of training the Afghan National Police. “The Police Training Center in Mazar-e Sharif is a place of common memories – and it will always be.” Stated the Head of Directorate of Federal Police of the German Ministry of Interior, Dr. Teichmann. Germany has completed building this center in four phases with a budget of 30 million Euro. The initial work started in 2008 and more than 100 buildings were established on an area of 500.000 square meters and the last construction was completed in 2014. A symbolic key was handed over to Deputy Minister of Interior Mr. Azizi to mark the handover of a fully functional training center that meets the modern standards. This training center is more than a contribution to Afghan development. It is an expression of a close partnership between Afghanistan and Germany. In the future, a total of 1.200 students can study at the same time and 200 instructors can deliver training. Together with the branches in Kunduz and Faizabad, as many as 2.000 female and male police officers can be trained and educated in Northern Afghanistan.
