Registered hawkers are now all insured Posted on August 30, 2013, Friday KUCHING: Hawkers registered with Association of Small Traders Sarawak (PPPKNS) are now covered by insurance, says Assistant Minister of Bumiputera Entrepreneur Development Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais. It’s free as the premium is wholly paid by the government. “The insurance covers, among others, injuries as a result of accidents, loss of property and burglary with the maximum coverage of RM5,000,” Naroden told a press statement after chairing a meeting of Consultative Council of Hawkers and Petty Traders State (MPPPKN) at his office in Wisma Bapa Malaysia yesterday. It was the second meeting of this year’s session. Naroden who is also chairman of the State Committee Relations Consultative Council of Small Hawkers and Merchants, said to qualify as a member one had to become a member of either the state PPPKNS or their branches. One’s business must be registered with the Inland Revenue Department for those living in the city or with the local councils or the respective district office for those in rural areas. “There are a number of accidents involving hawkers injured from fishing trips and another hawker whose money and jewellery were snatched.” Naroden, who is also Assistant Minister of Resource Planning, added that even though the amount (policy) was small the money would come in handy during difficult times especially for those with big families.
