Regrets I wish I’d have paid more attention in school But then you’d be identified as “teacher’s pet” As I look back on that time now I admit it is with some regret We were poor , but I didn’t know it My parents could never afford to send me to college It wasn’t cool to be smart in school Besides, who needed all that useless knowledge I saw guys dumber than a rock They dressed well and drove Corvettes Wine, women and song, then reality came along And in jail they expressed there regret I am amazed at the world we live in Wondering how I ever survived till “today” Buy now, just borrow, worry about it tomorrow We deserve the good life without delay Take time to think about eternity Church is out of the question Too many unbelievers, too many deceivers Didn’t someone call them “The Ten Suggestions?” Maybe we’ll get lucky and play the lottery But to win you first have to bet Wouldn’t life be sunny with all that money But I guess even King Midas had regret I am the master of my own future I just have to wait for my ship to arrive Drowning in sin, surrounded by shark fins How can we ever survive Eternity is ever before us And someday we’ll have to settle out debts Heaven or Hell, only time will tell Forever is a long time to have regrets
