Reject God for whatever reason fits… Believe that humans are “nothing but a pack of neurons” (Francis Crick) or whose brains are “simply meat computers” (Jerry Coyne)… Knowing that “From the perspective of natural science generally, there is no inherent reason that anything—a rock, a waterfall, a halibut, a human being—is of itself meaningful” (David Barash)… And that “at bottom,” there is “no design, no purpose, no evil, no good, nothing but pitiless indifference” (Richard Dawkins) … Embracing that “No ultimate foundations for ethics exist, no ultimate meaning in life exists, and free will is merely a human myth” (William Provine)… Realizing that mankind’s “origin, his growth, his hopes and fears, his loves and his beliefs, are but the outcome of accidental collections of atoms; that no fire, no heroism, no intensity of thought and feeling, can preserve an individual life beyond the grave; that all labour of the ages, all the devotion, all the inspiration, all the noonday brightness of human genius, are destined to extinction in the vast death of the solar system, and that the whole temple of Man’s achievement must inevitably be buried beneath the debris of a universe in ruins…” (Bertrand Russell)… Then expecting that what you think matters in the least … is the height of hubris, folly, delusion, and futility. How can there be credibility to these views when the very notion of credibility cannot even be trusted? Human beings know better.
