Reliance going Photon way Internet services in total disarray: Srinagar: The resumption of internet services by authorities on Friday after being barred for seven long days didn’t last for long as on Saturday netizens once again experienced virtual collapse of these services. Many are blaming the government for taking Kashmir back to the ‘Stone Age’. “We are facing huge problems due to the poor internet services as both broadband and mobile internet services are very poor over the last week but government has chosen to be a mute spectator. We don’t understand what government wants to prove by barring the internet services. Reliance devices don’t work properly, BSNL broadband service is very slow and mobile internet works sometimes but not regularly,” said Irfan Hussain, a University Research Scholar adding that students and scholars were worst hit by all this and slow speed of the internet was hampering their work. It may be mentioned, that last year, after Rahul Gandhi visited valley along with TATA Chairman Ratan Tata promising new opportunities for valley youth, TATA owned Photon services called it a day in J&K. The company did not even return the security deposit collected from the subscribers and is even now threatening them with court notices for not paying the ‘arrears’. . Commenting on the poor internet services and the problems caused by this to the people at large and students and journalists, PDP spokesperson Nayeem Akhter said that the government was constantly curbing the freedom of people and Internet is just a part of it. “Chief Minister Omar Abdullah say that we are being treated differently by centre, the poor internet services is just one more angle to his observation in which his own government has a hand,” he said. Akhter further said, “It seems only the internet services of Omar Abdullah and a few handful persons does work. The telecommunication organisations must come out clean on the issue, their own reputation is it stake and they should not sacrifice it for the convenience of state government.” Chief Spokesperson, Kashmir Economic Alliance Siraj Ahmad said that by barring internet, government is trying to cover-up the happenings from its own people. “Government has turned the state into stone age era by barring internet services, people are not being allowed to know the happenings around them which is injustice with them,” he claimed. Siraj said, “State government is not concerned about its own people. By barring internet services, common man has to face the brunt. It affects our business, education, health, as today every sector is dependent on internet. When internet is choked, everything stops.” However, despite repeated attempts the Minister of State for Information Technology, Feroz Ahmad Khan was not available for comment as his mobile phone was switched off.
