Religious Center Targeted in Hate Crime An unidentified suspect spray painted the Star of David and “26” on the front door of the Islamic Center of Santa Cruz in Live Oak on Wednesday November 19, 2014. Santa Cruz County sheriff’s deputies are investigating it as vandalism and a hate crime. Surveillance images from the mosque show that on November 19, 2014 at 1:40 am, what appears to be an unidentified woman wearing a hooded sweatshirt walk in front of the building and then up to the front door. The letters “SC” are printed on the left torso of the suspect’s sweatshirt and the suspect is covering the bottom half of her face. It is unknown what the “26” painted on the door means. The Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information regarding the identity of the suspect to call Sheriff’s Office Dispatch at (831) 471-1121.
