Remapping St Ives The Shallal Dance Theatre (pictured) will be around St Ives on Friday (20th September) to create an exciting and engaging pop-up dance theatre extravaganza during the day in the streets, as part of St Ives September Festival. This project is funded by the Big Lottery (Awards For All), Cornwall Community Foundation, FEAST and St Ives Town Council. Getting down a slipway; how easy is it, especially if you are a wheelchair user or unsteady on your feet. That’s the question Shallal Dance Theatre want to know the answer to. Two members of the Penwith based group will be working with expert rigging consultant and aerial choreographer, David Greeves, to create a ‘stunt’ to draw attention to the difficulties which many people with mobility impairments experience when trying to get around many towns in Cornwall. Its been organised by the Remapping St Ives project. There will be pop-up performances in the harbour in the morning and outside St Ives Guildhall, Street an Pol tomorrow afternoon (Friday 20th) to celebrate the opening of the new disabled access ramp, with small pop-up performances around Fore Street and the harbour on their route back to The Island Centre. Project Director Jo Mayes said “We are hoping to help highlight the way in which many of the walkways in St Ives are impossible for those with mobility problems to access to all”. St Ives mayor, councillor Colin Nicholls, is keen to encourage projects such as this in the town “ I think this is a big initiative for St Ives…so everyone can enjoy our town in a bigger way, in a more free way.” More info at remappingstives.org.uk
