Remember before the Sykesville By-pass was made (early 1960s) and The Dinky. This little railroad ran between Sykesville and Springfield Hospital, and hauled coal to the hospital. I think evidence of the tracks is still in front of Sykesville Middle School. The Dinky crossed a bridge over Spout Hill Road. Walking the tracks was a daily event for kids who lived in Sykesville or Kalorama Estates. When The Dinky crossed Springfield Avenue in front of the school, the engineer would sound his whistle and trafffic would stop. Rt. 32 was the same as Springfield Avenue and Main Street and carried a lot of traffic
