Remember the movie The Green Mile with Tom Hanks? On Tuesday night a horrible thing happened in Oklahoma. For the first time in 80 years 2 executions were scheduled to take place on the same night. Both were to be carried out by lethal injection. The executions were stayed by the Oklahoma Supreme Court due to lack of knowledge or confidence in the toxic 3-stage drug injections. The only company that made the drug in the US no longer makes it and European drug manufacturers do not want to sell the drug to America for them to use in executions. So, the State of Oklahoma offered that they could keep their supplier a secret if they could be sold the drug. Oklahomas Governor pushed ahead and threatened to impeach 4 of the Supreme Court justices and the justices allowed the executions to go forward. During the first execution, first they injected a sedative, then they proceeded with the second and third stages. Reports have said that the man being put to death, continually blinked his eyes, licked his lips, went through convulsions, sat up and mostly spoke incomprehensively but could clearly be heard saying, Something is wrong. At that point, the doctor closed the curtain from the view of reporters who were there to detail that the execution was being carried out in a Constitutional manner. Reporters could not do their jobs with the curtains closed. They called off the execution and rushed the victim to the hospital in an ambulance where he died from a massive heart attack. This was not an execution by the State. It was murder! The second execution was stayed for 2 weeks while an investigation is being conducted. When will America stop killing people in our name?
