Remembering: The U.S.S. Roanoke (CL-145) A collection of pictures on board or around The U.S.S. Roanoke. The pictures were taken in approximately 1956, when the ship was in port in the countries of Japan, China, Guam, Philippines, as well as, in Hawaii. The book which these came from, was dedicated to The U.S.S. Roanoke, which was Commissioned on April 4, 1949 & Decommissioned on October 31, 1958. Though the ship was built in Camden, New Jersey, it was christened The U.S.S. Roanoke on June 16, 1947 by Julia Ann Henebry, who was the daughter of Leo F. Henebry, the Mayor of Roanoke, Virginia from 1943 to 1946.
