Remembering my Veteran friends and family today... My father, during WWII, did the whole Pacific theatre, New Guinea, Talagi, New Caledonia, and all the way to Japan without seeing any action, as he was in Army anti aircraft and arrived, luckily after things were over. My uncle, the marine, was on Saipan and was there when they raised the flag on Iwo Jima. He saw the the worst of it. Maybe the best way to honor these folks is to make sure we never let a regime intent on imperial expansion, as in the Pacific, or one using bigotry, ethnic or religious scapegoating, homophobia, and fear, as in Europe, from ever gaining power, again.
