Remembrance of Things Past, No. 4; The fishing vessel ALISON - TopicsExpress

Remembrance of Things Past, No. 4; The fishing vessel ALISON LEE, built in 2003, went through the wars this winter. Those whove followed this page at least since since last fall will recall images of her lying sheltered along the south side of Memorial Wharf as northeaster after northeaster lashed her with gales, iced her with sleet and snow, and twisted and tore the American ensign at her mast top until it looked like a battle flag on the losing side of cannonade. Well, last week the skipper of the ALISON LEE fired up her engine, backed her away from the wharf, and headed over to Vineyard Haven. In just twenty-four hours, he had the boat hauled, her bottom painted, and the vessel in the water and en route to Edgartown again. With the advent of spring, shes back on the bays and ponds of the town, lobstering and showing no signs of wear. Heres a shot of the stalwart old boat leaving for Marthas Vineyard Shipyard on May 14, 2014. And with it, a few shots of the meteorological ordeals she went through during the old-time winter of 2013-2014.
