Reminder: 2015 planning meeting, Tuesday January 6th 6:30 pm Redbud Roasters, 169 S LBJ Other dates to know about (from Dianne): Jan. 29th, 6 p.m., City meeting re Erosion Control, Activity Center. Public invited. The meeting will have city staff and environmental experts attending to answer questions. They will explain how the City is approaching erosion & sedimentation control on projects. The city would like to discuss expectations of the public, and build a relationship between our department and community representatives. They want folks to feel comfortable approaching City staff to discuss their concerns. make reports to them, etc. They also want to gather input that night from folks; things they like to see on projects and things they dont like to see in regards to erosion and sedimentation controls. WATER CONSERVATION RULES: I hope you already have Jan 8th and Jan 10th marked on your calendars, since these are dates of city meetings at City Hall, at which the weakening of water conservation rules will be discussed and then could be enacted very quickly after the holidays. I dont know the times yet of these two meetings, so will give you those next week. Please attend to learn and understand what is going on in detail. Jan 10 is the city council workshop and is the more important of the two, if you can only attend one. (Jan 8th is a Citizens Utility Advisory Board meeting and they will make a recommendation to the Council.) Later in January there will be a Council meeting that you ALSO need to attend, to speak so the Council knows your opinion. 96% of the SM citizens said they were fine with the watering rules as they are, or even wanted them stricter and enforced, in a recent city survey. Only 4% wanted the rules weakened. Now there is an active group of the 4% who are asking for the rules to be weakened at Council. The city staff has prepared a draft general weakening of all the watering rules, and this will be discussed in detail at these two meetings Jan 8 and 12. Here are some pictures of some of our construction sites in town. They are all missing adequate sediment containment or have none at all. There is are failure at the permitting, contractors implementation, and with inspection process. Im personally sick of the lip service from the city and would like to see some solid change in code and actual enforcement of the existing code. Sites featured: Casey Development on I-35 Hunter Road Improvement The demolished lot on Hunter: No sediment control and notice the material that is back-filled 3 deep on heritage size Live Oaks... its crushed road, asphalt and concrete compacted by bulldozers. Soon to be dead trees standing. Texas State Stadium on Aquarena. The new construction site on Hutchinson. These guys kinda got it right, except for the water goes downhill thing.
