*** Reminder to Secure Webcams *** Police are reminding members of the public to make any new technology as secure as possible with Christmas approaching. Recently officers warned people about the dangers of hackers after it was revealed that families were unknowingly broadcasting their everyday lives across the internet through hacked webcams. The Force looked into a number of broadcasts on a website that could potentially have been coming from houses within the Cleveland area, although no evidence was ever found to confirm that the broadcasts were actually from within Cleveland and no reports were received to the Force. These broadcasts have now been removed from the website. In the run up to Christmas, some people may receive webcams as gifts or laptops or have webcams with them are asked to change the default username and password to something strong in order to protect themselves. Default login credentials are freely available online for thousands of cameras.
