Reminiscent of the Parisian Imam who hid Jews under the floors of the Grand Mosque of Paris during the Holocaust, this French Muslim, originally from Mali, hid 15 Jewish customers in the basement of the Kosher grocery store where he was an employee. Bathily did not hide himself with them, but chose rather to remain out of protection. May he be remembered for his courage and for his honor, as in the face of evil, we are a human race entrusted with each others protection. It is written in both Jewish and Muslim tradition that if one saves one life, it is as though they have saved all of Mankind.
