Renee Edwardh Letter: The kinds of leaders Quebecers need Where are the inspiring, innovative leaders with fresh ideas, a strong vision for a successful, harmonious Quebec and a knowledgeable, capable team that will fix what is so incredibly broken in this province? We are in dire need of repair, not grand building projects for politician photo ops and ribbon cutting ceremonies. We need fiscal responsibility, not patronage, graft, bureaucracy, bloated government, identity politics, language pettiness, incompetence and arrogance. We need a government that will not take money away thoughtlessly and then just as thoughtlessly throw money around to entice voters. We need to know that the Quebec Pension Plan we are paying into will still be available to us at retirement and will not have disappeared due to government mismanagement. We need to know that we will not end up with U.S.-style health care because of fiscal mismanagement by the government. We need to feel comfortable driving under underpasses or over bridges without worrying about falling concrete or falling into the river. We need a government that believes money should be used to pay animal-cruelty inspectors, not language inspectors. We need politicians who actually care about all Quebecers, not just a subset of them who speak the “right” language and have the “right” religion and culture. We need politicians who actually care about Quebec and will focus on repairing the damage caused by 40 years of identity politics. Talk is cheap, we want concrete actions that will bring Quebec back to its economic glory days. I wonder whether any Quebec or municipal politician is ready, willing and able to do just that.
