Renold Hi-Tec workers in Halifax to stage second strike on Thursday in pay dispute More than 30 workers at Renold Hi-Tec Couplings in Halifax will stage a second 24 hour strike on Thursday (23 January) as management continues ‘to stonewall’ in a pay dispute. The workers, members of Unite, the country’s largest union, first struck on 19 December over the the company’s arbitrary imposition of a pay freeze. Workers at the Parkinson Lane site will strike from 07.30 on Thursday until 07.30 on Friday (24 January). Unite regional officer Simon Coop said: “The company’s stonewalling and dismissive stance is making this dispute worse. Management will not sit down with the aim of negotiating a way forward, despite the best efforts of Unite and the conciliation service, Acas. “It leaves our members with no choice, but to strike again to send a clear message that this dispute will not go away. Our offer for talks is open at any time. If the management remains intransigent, more industrial action will be on the cards.” Unite said that the company had previously made an annual £7 million profit, and although the employees say they are working just as hard, the management now claims that the firm is making a loss. The workers at the the company, which makes high-tech couplings for the engineering sector, voted by a 80 per cent majority to strike.
