Report: Celtics Discussing Rondo Trade with Mavericks BOSTON (WGGB) — Recent struggles by the Boston Celtics have Danny Ainge and his staff looking towards the future. Unfortunately, serious growth could mean parting ways with some major star power. According to a report from ESPN, the Celtics are in serious talks with the Dallas Mavericks on a trade for star point guard Rajon Rondo. Trade rumors surrounded Rondo last season, but now the Celtics are looking at the possibility of several valuable draft picks, including a future first-rounder. The deal could also include up-and-coming Mavericks center Brandan Wright. With Rondo in the final year of his contract, the Celtics have also spoken to teams such as the Sacramento Kings, Los Angeles Lakers, New York Knicks, and Houston Rockets. However, because Rondo is so close to the end of his contract, and has expressed interest in testing free agency, teams looking for a deal will be able to speak with Rondo for his input on how badly he wants to play for their team. A mid-season trade to Dallas would add some strength to their 19-8 team and make them a force in the highly-competitive Western Conference.
