Report: Vehicular accident ruptures Petrotrin Oil Line at Guapo/Cap-de-Ville Main Road, Point Fortin. Following is a press release issued by Petrotrin this afternoon. At approximately 5:22 a.m. today, Sunday September 14, while on mobile patrol, Petrotrin Security Officers observed an overturned vehicle in a drain off the roadway along the Guapo, Cap-de-Ville Main Road, Point Fortin. The vehicle was apparently proceeding on the straight road (Dunlop Stretch) and had run off the roadway in front of DAMUS Ltd., rupturing an active 10-inch oil line, causing crude oil and water to escape. The driver, who had reportedly lost control of the vehicle, was taken to the Point Fortin Area Hospital byPetrotrin Security personnel and later transferred to the San Fernando General Hospital. In an effort to restrict thespread of oil, booms and other containment equipment have been deployed. Vacuum trucks were used in the recovery efforts and a total of 150 barrels of oil has been recovered from the area surrounding the ruptured line. Petrotrin Emergency Response Plan was activated and the oil line isolated. Investigations are being conducted by both Petrotrin and the civil police. The Ministry of Energy and Energy Affairs as well as the regulatory agencies have been informed and all necessary resources have been directed to the containment and clean-up operations. Repairs to the line are expected to be completed within the next twenty-four (24) hours. The Company wishes to apologize to the travelling public for any inconvenience caused by the containment and clean-up activities and appeals to all motorists to exercise caution on the nation’s roadways.
