Reportagem do IOSH sobre a nossa visita ao Tunneling Academy Visit of Hong Kong Institution of Engineers to London We were also joined by Sarah Hamilton from IOSH, .....and Mr Manuel Tender who is a construction health and safety professor from Portugal. Having met at London Liverpool Street Station, we headed east past the Olympic Park to the Tunnelling and Underground Construction Academy (TUCA) at Ilford. The purpose-built facilities are the only facility in Europe dedicated to the education of soft-ground tunnelling techniques. With Crossrail busily working under London this was a great opportunity to find out a little more about safety controls for people working underground. What was really clear throughout the tour was the strong emphasis placed on safety in every module. This was extremely well demonstrated when we were taken inside a training tunnel and shown the realistic emergency evacuation training procedures. From TUCA we went for a tour of the iconic Lloyds building on Lime Street. After a cup of coffee we received a very informative presentation about the building’s history and the physical risks that sit together with the financial risks of this business. It was clear that safety was embedded into the culture of Lloyds with a very proactive and can-do attitude. The London Met branch has a clear remit within its current strategy for international impact. This visit was another example of how London Met is working with international safety professionals to build friendships, learn from each other and help make the world a better place.
