Repost From: TOURISM, QUEZON Today marks the 153rd birthday of Jose P. Rizal. His contributions to the Philippine patriotism made him the national hero of our country and to continue his legacy , the Philippine Commission passed Act No. 243 on September 28, 1901, authorizing the construction of a national monument for Filipino patriot and reformist, Jose Rizal(June 19, 1861–December 30, 1896). Subsequently, public schools, municipalities, and cities all over the country built their own versions of Rizal monuments. All of these structures in different forms, magnitude and designs represent local flavors blended on current architectural styles of the period. In matters of patriotism, these historic monuments and memorials imbue the love for the country in every Filipino - a virtue personified by the Philippine national hero. Quezon Province is proud to have three unique Rizal Monuments; these are the half naked Rizal Monument in Perez Park, the national historical landmark of Mauban Rizal Hill Top and one of the most beautiful Rizal monuments in the world is in Lucban Quezon. HALF NAKED RIZAL MONUMENT IN PEREZ PARK : On the 2nd block of Perez Park in the Provincial Capitol Center is the rock monument with fish pond known as stone map of Quezon Province made up of boulders, each representing a municipality. Each stone also bears the total land area and population of the municipality it is representing at the time it was constructed. A distinct attraction to this stone rock map is the half naked Jose Rizal designed by Primitivo Enriquez Zoleta in 1927. RIZAL HILLTOP MONUMENT IN MAUBAN: Situated at a 100-foot promontory at Calvario Hill, Rizal Hilltop is the highest Rizal monument in the country. It was declared as national historical landmark. Used as an observation post by the Spaniards, Americans and Japanese forces, the hill that overlooks the town was called Calvario because it was the site of the reenactment of Jesus Christ’s Calvary during the Spanish era. LUCBAN RIZAL MONUMENT INFRONT OF THE MUNICIPAL HALL In 1905, the Rizal Monument committee announced an art competition. Local and foreign sculptors were invited to participate, with the year 1907 as the deadline of submission. It was a reasonable period of time to conceptualize and design a scale model for the future Rizal national monument. The grand prize winner would be awarded a cash prize of P5,000, as well as the P100,000-contract to build the monument. It was a huge sum during that time and thus many sculptors, including some of the best in Europe, participated. The Rizal Monument in Lucban was one of the chosen pieces among the forty bozetos (scale model) that made it to as finalists to be the scale model of the monument that will be placed in Luneta. #Rizal153 #Quezon #RizalHillTop #Lucban #PerezPark
