Reposting Jeffs post...For Easter, let us reflect on a certain aspect of the day the Lord died. In Matthew 27:46, Jesus on the cross cried out My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” Often our minds see this as the crucified Christ, covered with humanities imperfection and sin was separated from the Father. I submit that this is not the story at all but an allusion to something else. Remember, the society He lived in was one that memorized the scriptures. Who was present on that day that might recall scripture quickly? Jesus accusers were most assuredly present. Pharisees and priests would comprise the bulk of this group. When Jesus said My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” their minds would go to what we call Psalms 22. The psalmist wrote and they most definitely quoted through their anger, For dogs have surrounded Me; the congregation of the wicked has enclosed Me. They pierced My hands and My feet; I can count all My bones. They look and stare at Me. They divide My garments among them, and for My clothing they cast lots. You see, Jesus was reminding those detractors that He was the fulfillment of the Psalm David wrote long before. This was a cry of victory. Just something to think about. Happy Easter!
