Representatives from Wellingborough Civic Society attended the site viewing, convened by Wellingborough Borough Council Planning Committee, at the ’ Ten ‘o’ Clock’, Main Street, Little Harrowden on Tuesday Morning 13th January 2015. It was bright but very chilly and on arrival we observed a representative gathering of villagers and Parish Council members along with some members of the planning committee and council officers. The architect and a representative for the developer of the proposed plans were also present, who exhibited and explained the plans to all interested parties. There were valid concerns raised about parking and the issues this development would cause when taken in context with parking problems already present in the village. Many of those present, including the Civic Society, wanted the original building, not to be demolished, but reused within the proposed development with conversion into one or two houses, which would have left the street scene in tact allowing Little Harrowden to retain its valuable past, but also move to the future with the new homes this development would undoubtedly provide. Council members listened to the concerns expressed by those attending and then left. This morning, the Society has been advised by the council, that the current proposal has been withdrawn and will not be discussed by the planning committee at the council meeting tonight 14th January 2015. We hope that any future plans presented for this site include reuse of the current building and not its demolition!
