Reps Propose Compensation for Boko Haram Victims 12 July 2013 , By Abbas Jimoh and Musa Abdullahi Krishi, Source: Daily Trust The House of Representatives yesterday called on the Federal Government to compile the names of all the victims of the Boko Haram violence with a view to compensating their families. The House also in its resolution urged the federal government to beef up security in the states mostly affected by the insurgency especially in public places like markets and places of worship, calling on the Nigerian Army and the Inspector-General of Police to swing into action to arrest perpetrators. The House further called on the government to "immediately take remedial measures to address the plight of refugees" in the states affected by the recently imposed emergency rule. This followed two separate motions moved by Rep Abubakar Mahmud Wambai (PDP, Adamawa), on the plight of the refugees in the three states of Adamawa, Borno and Yobe and that of Rep Muraina Ajibola (PDP, Oyo), on "the gruesome killing of 10 Ibadan traders in Borno State." Wambai, in his submission, informed the House that due to fear of uncertainties, most people in the emergency states took refuge in neighbouring countries of Niger, Chad and Cameroon. For his part, Ajibola expressed concern by the killing of ten Ibadan traders more than a week ago by suspected members of the sect, while "several millions of Naira was stolen from them in the gruesome attacks," saying the attack took place in spite of the emergency rule.
