Though their tender ages prevent them for verbally articulating your importance in their lives, that long admiring stare can express the words they are too young to communicate. Daddies, you are the first masculine love they will ever be introduced to. You are the living prototype of what life has to offer. Because of you, they will sprint up the basketball court much faster, be more courageous, feel more sheltered, understand their worth and stand their ground in conflict. Fathers, they will mirror you and look for your constant wisdom. In the youthful eyes of your child, you are so beautiful. You are their ultimate warrior who is undefeated in battle and smarter than any teacher they’ll ever encounter. You are their first educator, first favorite actor, physician, physiologist, lawyer, judge and friend. From you, he’ll learn directly how to handle his first crush, pull through his first heartbreak, score his first touchdown and throw his first blows. Your son will dedicate himself resembling your magnificent splendor. He’ll want to walk, talk, dress and be powerful just like his father. From you, she will recognize how wonderful and remarkable she is. Your princess cut daughter will gain knowledge on the characteristics of a man, conquer her fear of being stage shy when she sees you in the crowd and fear no boogie monster because she knows you are her protection. The smile from a proud father becomes the catalyst for honor roll students, Master degree graduates and Presidential candidates. It is the paternal approval of daddy that shatters any impossibilities or fear. Our children are our spaceships into forever. They will not only carry but they will expand our legacy throughout time. Soon enough, you will be the great-great grandfather from back in the day whose relentless love and determination paved the future and set the standard for many. Don’t allow anyone to take away their hero. From the moment of conception, millions of men and women have their childhoods stripped from their reality due to one night stands and secret love affairs played out by strangers called parents. Suddenly daddy’s big secret/mistake forces him to exile himself from parenthood. A failed relationship with their mother shouldn’t shatter an eternal relationship with your child. No child support check can resemble your physical touch and embrace. Maybe you grew up without a father so becoming one is truly a mystery to you. Your fatherless upbringing should only encourage you to stay closer by their side. Every deadbeat father and absentee dad leaves behind a generation of confusion, abandonment and conflict. Our children become victims instead of victors. They approach this earthly fight called life too battered and neglected to even step inside the ring. Results become domestic violence, blind promiscuity, inmates, bitter anger, prostitution, immature wisdom, drug addicts and empty hearts. Don’t leave it up to this cold world to provide the love and protection you’ve been formed and structured to provide. No matter the circumstance or status of your well-being, if you possess breathe in your lungs and blood in your veins, then share life with your seeds. Everyday is an opportunity to reconcile mistakes and begin a relationship with your children. If life pushed you astray and caused you to leave behind your born image, forgive myself, find your child and ask for forgiveness and start anew. Understand the fact that fatherless children possess a void and sincere craving for answers. If not provided by you, they will lean towards something, ANYTHING, for the fulfillment of your absence. We have all been blessed with the most profound and remunerative occupation ever given to man-FATHERHOOD. If you are good dad, continue. If you a father who lost his way, regain your ground and save your child. Pray to God- “God, grant me grace for fatherhood and wisdom for parenting. Help and train me to perform the duties of a father to the best of my ability.” Michael Eric Dyson, one of today’s most renowned scholar and public intellectual once said “We make love but God makes babies”, proving the veracity that you are a chosen vessel of life. Never surrender that position. Fresh out their mother’s womb, you have a choice to become man, myth or legend. Choose wisely because literally, the fate of tomorrow rest in your hands...
