Requirement of New Impetus for Kashmir Policy by Pak Govt It is - TopicsExpress

Requirement of New Impetus for Kashmir Policy by Pak Govt It is noteworthy that while Pakistani leaders, whether Gen Musharraf or Nawaz Sharif have been speaking of moving away from Pakistan’s longstanding position on Kashmir, no Indian leader has ever held out the prospect of India modifying its stand that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India. In fact they have been quite categorical in stating that any solution of Kashmir must be within the framework of the Indian constitution under which the whole of the state belongs to India. In his speech to the UN General Assembly Mr Nawaz Sharif should restate Pakistan’s longstanding position that the Kashmir issue is one of the right to self-determination and should be resolved in accordance with the UN Security Council resolutions. Musharraf stopped mentioning these resolutions from 2004. In 2012, If Pak fails to refer to these resolutions appropriately at the UN General Assembly, it will be taken as further evidence that Pak has betrayed the Kashmiri cause.
