Research in medicine has unlocked many mysteries which has helped mankind in understanding the advantages of leading a healthy and happy life. However, it is astonishing to know how certain communities in discrete corners of the world are leading a simple life thereby giving new insights to professionals in the field of medicine, nutrition and other aligned disciplines. We at Sparsh, would like to share the story on one such amazing community. Ikaria, a picturesque Greek hamlet spread over 99 square miles is home to approx 10,000 nonagenarians. The story of this town was first published in New York times in 2012 after a gentleman, Mr Moraitis was diagnosed of lung cancer while living in the United States. A trip to numerous doctors revealed that he would live more a maximum of 6 months. After doing some cost analysis, Mr Moraitis and his wife decided it would be best for the couple to relocate to their home town in Greece. After shifting base to Ikaria, the health of this war veteran improved dramatically and he added 30 more years to his life. What goes on in such corners of the world continues to remain a puzzle to many people. It is not the first time that stress has been laid on diet, exercise, cherishing relationships and practicing gratitude. To sum it all up in a simple manner, a quote by an anonymous source- ~Be as loving as you can, to as many people as you can, for as long as you can. Wishing everyone a healthy and happy 2015.
